After application of high voltage ignition of gas This happens in a small capsule that is filled with xenon gases and halide salts. The excited gas electro photo discharge is utilized for light emission by combination of spectral components after excitation of gas between two electrodes. In this xenon and other elements fill up the bulb instead of filament being used in other bulbs. It is the latest technique in the lighting of automobiles.

HID lighting system gives about three times more light output as compared to light given by standard halogen headlights though using less energy. It refers to lighting technique that depends upon an electrical charge which helps to ignite Xenon gas present in the sealed bulb. HID stands for High Density Discharge. They are combined with HID and provide much better light as compared to other bulbs. The different colors found are blue, white, yellow and purple.
